NABERSNZ plays key role in new Green Star tool

NABERSNZ is being used to measure and rate the energy performance of office buildings under Green Star Performance, a new assessment tool launched today by the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC).

Green Star Performance assesses the operational performance of all types of existing buildings. It rates entire buildings across nine categories that contribute to the health, wellbeing and productivity of occupants.

“This is a great opportunity to bring the benefits of lower carbon, productive practices to a wide range of buildings and their occupants, including offices, retail centres, hospitals, public buildings, hotels.”

Gary WalkerAccount Director - Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA)

Energy performance is a key category worth up to 23 points out of 100. “This recognises the impact energy use has on the everyday wellbeing of people, communities and the environment, as well as the business bottom line,” says Gary.

The other categories are management, indoor environment quality, transport, water, materials, land use & ecology, emissions and innovation.

NABERSNZ continues to be available as a stand-alone tool to rate and improve the energy efficiency of New Zealand’s office buildings. Free feasibility assessments are available to owners and tenants considering undertaking a NABERSNZ rating, to assess their building’s readiness to get started.
