Hutt City Council Administration Building

The Hutt City Council Administration building is home to the council chambers, call centre, customer services and administration staff. In 2013, it was determined that the building required structural strengthening to meet new seismic regulations. The building was refurbished to a new modern standard, including high levels of insulation, double glazing and low energy light fittings.

.

The building also utilises the use of energy piles which consist of ground source heat pump pipework being built within the building's structural piles, using the stable temperature of the ground to regulate the temperature of the building above. Ground source heat pumps also work in reverse and can be combined with cooling systems. When in heating mode, the energy is extracted from the ground and when in cooling mode, the energy is rejected into the ground resulting in significantly reduced cooling energy costs. These thermal piles provide a means of reducing energy use and CO2 emissions.

The building has achieved a 4.5 Star NABERS rating for its first year of occupancy.
